Courage in Journalism Awards

Every year the International Women’s Media Foundation honors brave women journalists who risk political persecution, injury and sometimes death in their efforts to expose corruption and champion human rights.

Global Research on Women

The IWMF is working on ground-breaking research on the status of women in the media worldwide. The new study, the Global Report on the Status of Women in the News Media, will measure the career progress of women in the news media and use the results to help advocate for change.

The IWMF also tracks past studies on women in the news media, and will draw from this prior work in compiling the Global Report, which will be published in 2011.

4-Year Africa Project

With generous support from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the IWMF launched "Reporting on Agriculture and Women: Africa." The project is energizing the way African media cover one of the most important topics on the continent.
The IWMF is helping African journalists to boost coverage of agriculture and rural development and increase women’s voices – both as journalists and as sources – in stories about agriculture

Funding HIV/AIDS Investigative Reporting

The IWMF is establishing 10 fellowships to train journalists in South Africa to write investigative reports on the HIV/AIDS epidemic. With support from the M*A*C  AIDS Fund, these experienced journalists will conduct interviews and write in-depth research for their publications in 2011.

Online Network

The IWMF’s global network connects women in the news media, bringing them together in new ways to share ideas, resources, strategies and career advice. The online directory of members has been taken down for a much-needed update. We plan to post a new-and-improved online directory in the near future. In the meantime, communicate with others in the IWMF Network by visiting us on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter.  If you are trying to get in touch with a particular member, please email Roshani Kothari.

Call for photos.

We want to see photographs of you at work! Help us support women in the news media worldwide by showing the faces of women’s leadership in the media. Send us pictures of you at work at your desks, doing interviews in the field, editing tape, writing stories, blogging -- whatever you do in the media, however you do it. Help us show the world the variety of women in the news media.

Our staff will pick our favorites and display them on our Facebook Fan Page.

Please email your photos along with your name, your company name, and your contact information to Roshani Kothari.

Photo Policy:

Photographs submitted will be used only in conjunction with the IWMF's educational mission and non-profit activities, and not for any commercial purpose.  If submitted photos are subject to copyright protection, please obtain and submit with the photograph permission of the copyright holder to use the photograph for any non-commercial purpose associated with the IWMF mission. Where appropriate photo credit will be given to photos used by the IWMF.
